Hodges Announces Candidacy for the Broad Run School Board Seat

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 22, 2023

Broadlands, [May 22, 2023] – Chris Hodges, a 17-year resident of Broadlands, proudly declares his candidacy for the Loudoun County School Board in the Broad Run district. This decision comes as current School Board member Tiffany Polifko has decided not to seek re-election, creating an opportunity for new leadership. Hodges brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to academic excellence and student safety.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the campaign, Hodges stated, “I am extremely excited to announce my candidacy for the Broad Run School Board seat. We have great schools, great teachers, and phenomenal kids. However, we must resist the temptation to lower standards and divert focus from core academics.”

In the next five months leading up to the election on November 7th, Hodges plans to engage with the community by actively meeting and listening to residents’ concerns and ideas. His approach is aimed at refining his comprehensive platform, to be released prior to the election, that emphasizes the following five key priorities:

  1. Academic Excellence
  2. Safety
  3. Parental rights
  4. Teacher support
  5. Tax dollar efficiency

Hodges believes that the Loudoun County school system is currently at a critical juncture. He stated, “We have witnessed considerable change since the onset of the pandemic, and unfortunately, much of it has been politically driven and detrimental to our children’s education and mental health. As a common-sense and levelheaded candidate, I am committed to providing the absolute best education and support that our tax money can buy for each and every child.”

Hodges brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his candidacy. As a 1985 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a Navy veteran, he understands the importance of discipline, integrity, and effective leadership. With 38 years of marriage, three children (two of whom graduated from Briar Woods High School), and four grandchildren, Hodges deeply values the importance of education in shaping the future of our community.

“I have no other political aspirations than joining the School Board and doing the best job I can for as long as I can,” said Hodges. “My goal is to re-establish LCPS as one of the top school districts in the country. We must raise standards, give parents a stronger voice in their child’s education, support our hardworking teachers, make the most efficient use of taxpayer dollars, and prioritize the safety of our students.”

Hodges encourages residents to learn more about his campaign and reach out through his official campaign website, Hodgesforschoolboard.com.

“It would be my absolute honor to represent the Broad Run district,” Hodges stated, expressing his dedication to serving the community. With his extensive background and genuine passion for education, Hodges aims to provide strong leadership and ensure a bright future for students in Loudoun County.

Academic Excellence
Ensuring that rigorous academics take center stage will be one of my top priorities. I will tackle the issues of learning loss, lower standardized test scores and modified grading policies that are damaging to our children’s progress and serve as a roadblock to college acceptance.
Safety in Schools
I am acutely aware of the critical role safety plays in schools. Our students, teachers and staff deserve to feel secure in their learning environment. It is the responsibility of the school administration to be pro-active, transparent, and accountable in creating and maintaining a safe school environment. I am committed to working towards this goal and ensuring safety remains a top priority in our schools.
Parental Rights
I agree with the experts in education who say that parental involvement is crucial for achieving the best educational outcomes for children, especially in public schools.
When teachers, administrators, and School Boards recognize the rights of parents and collaborate with them to educate their children, they can help their students succeed. The key to success lies in working with parents as partners rather than against them.
Teacher Support
My aim is to ensure that teachers are not only heard but also feel supported, allowing them to focus on teaching as their top priority. It is my duty to represent the voices of both the students and teachers, and I approach this responsibility with great seriousness. Knowledge and education are the basis for all things that can be accomplished in life. Teachers provide the power of education to today's youth, thereby giving them the possibility for a better future.
Tax Dollar Prudence
The tax payors of Broad Run work hard for their money and they want to know that whether they have children in LCPS or not their tax dollars are being used judiciously. I commit to taking a hard look at the LCPS budget each year and make sure the money is being used wisely and efficiently and that the priority is based in the classroom.
